It is my sincere hope that staff, students, and families are making the most of this Summer by relaxing and enjoying a break. I am writing to briefly let the WHS school community know I am thinking of you as we hit the midpoint of Summer and hoping all of you have been experiencing the relaxation and enjoyment this season affords us. Good ol’ fashioned “R&R” is necessary, too, in order to get us ready for the work ahead.

Please know that preparations have been ongoing for the new school year ahead. We are so excited for the start of the 2022-2023 school year; a year we expect to be dedicated to reclaiming what we all do best in Westborough: cherish teaching and learning. I will be sharing more details about this in the welcome back letter in a few weeks.

Additionally, I would like to inform you of the departure of Mr. Matthew Lefebvre, WHS Assistant Principal. Mr. Lefebvre has accepted the job of Principal at Hopkinton Middle School. We will surely miss him, and wish him well in the new position and district.

I am thrilled to announce the new WHS Assistant Principal, Mrs. Kate Mercadante. She comes to WHS with 10 years of classroom teaching experience and serving as the Orchestra Director at Shrewsbury High School most recently. Mrs. Mercadante possesses an Undergraduate degree in Music Education, a Master's degree in Music Education, and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Management. She is more than prepared and quite eager to join WHS administration after serving in various leadership and administrative roles as a teacher-leader in her previous schools, including a year-long administrative intern, presenting professional development workshops, writing curriculum, and being a class advisor, and much more. She finds joy in being immersed in school life and is looking forward to doing this at WHS.

Mrs. Mercadante believes in the power of forming strong, positive relationships with her colleagues, all students, and families, which is a very important factor for success. Be sure to welcome Mrs. Mercadante when you see her.

The ‘Summer Edition’ newsletter is appropriately brief and has some information you may find useful as you and students begin to turn your sights on the start of a new school year. Please take a look when you have a free moment. Please continue to enjoy the remaining weeks of summer vacation.

Warm Regards,

Mr. Brian Callaghan
